Rule Change: Major Changes in September 2025, Here’s How People Will Be Affected
September 1, 2025, brings several important rule changes that will impact people’s daily lives. From gas cylinder prices and tax deadlines to Aadhaar updates and silver buying, it’s crucial to stay updated and take action on time to avoid any inconvenience. Here are the key changes you need to know:

1. Commercial Gas Cylinder Prices Reduced
The price of commercial gas cylinders has been reduced by Rs 51. New rates have come into effect from September 1, offering relief to traders, hotels, and restaurants using commercial LPG cylinders.
2. Last Date for Filing Income Tax Returns
If you missed filing your income tax return, the government has set 30 September 2025 as the last date for late filing. You can file your ITR with late fees and interest up to this date.
3. Aadhaar Card Update Deadline
The deadline to update your Aadhaar card (name, address, mobile number, etc.) has been fixed as 14 September 2025 by UIDAI. After this date, updating details will require payment of a fee.
4. Switch Option: NPS to UPS
Employees who want to switch from the National Pension Scheme (NPS) to the Universal Pension Scheme (UPS) must do so by 30 September 2025. Submit your application before the deadline if you wish to opt for the new pension scheme.
5. New Rule for Silver Jewellery
From September 1, a new rule regarding the purchase of silver has come into force. Customers now have the option to buy either hallmarked or non-hallmarked silver jewellery. BIS has launched the hallmarking facility for silver, but it is not mandatory—buyers can choose as per their preference.
Stay Updated to Avoid Trouble
Make sure to complete all relevant work—like ITR filing, Aadhaar updates, and pension changes—before the respective deadlines to avoid extra charges or missing out on benefits.
